Overview

Summary/ Objective

The position of an Analyzer Technician III is responsible to calibrate, repair and maintain analyzers. An Analyzer Technician will perform work as required to maximize the quality of the Company while maintaining the specified expectations of the client and ensure safe working environment while performing work and will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures. This position will maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Calibrate, repair, and maintain analyzers.
  2. Read and work from related blueprints.
  3. Cut, bend, and install tubing related to instruments.
  4. May test controls to regulate factors such as current flow, timing cycle, pressure, temperature, or vacuum, according to specifications.
  5. May disassemble instrument or device to determine cause of defective operation.
  6. May read quality control manuals and testing specifications to obtain data to test or calibrate specific devices.
  7. Teach/mentor others.
  8. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with applicable environmental, health, safety and building codes as required by federal, state, local and refinery regulations.
  9. Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  10. Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  11. Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  13. Knowledgeable, trained and proven in all aspects of process Analytical systems maintenance. Able to efficiently diagnose and repair difficult problems associated with the following:
    • Chromatography (gas and liquid phase)
      • Column switching techniques
      • Multi-column techniques
      • Multi-detector techniques
    • Spectroscopy
      • Infrared
      • Ultraviolet
      • Near Infrared
      • Laser, e.g. Tunable Diode Laser
    • Oxygen Measurment
      • Paramagnetic
      • Electrochemical
    • Moisture Measurment
      • Hygrometry
      • Solid State Sensors
      • Aluminum Oxide Sensors
    • Titrators & associated methods
    • pH & Conductivity measurment
    • Total Organic Carbon
    • Continuous Emission Monitor Systems
      • Rosemount
      • ABB
      • HRVOC (Highly Reactive Volatile Organic Compounds)
    • Sampling Techniques
    • Serial Communications
  14. Optimization of analytical systems ( improve accuracy, repeatability, reliability )
  15. Provide input regarding the development & engineering of new analyzer systems.
  16. Assist and train less skilled Analyzer Technicians

Work Environment

This job operates in a petrochechemical / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months; exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees are required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of the job, the position of an Analyzer Technician III may be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. An Analyzer Technician III will frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms.

 

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a project- based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

Travel is not required for this position.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Associate degree or apprenticeship in instrument technology or related field of study or equivalent job experience and 5+ years Analyzer Technician experience. Ability to troubleshoot and apply knowledge in the repair and maintenance of analytical equipment.

Training courses from major analyzer system manufacturers such as Siemens/Applied Automation, ABB, Biotector, Servomex

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Petrochemical/ refinery experience. First Aid and CPR trained. Class “A” driver’s license and a clean MVR.
