Overview

  • Position, align, fit and weld parts to form complete units or subunits
  • Perform precision measurement, layout, drilling, sawing, cutting, welding, turning, milling, and precision grinding safely
  • Perform a variety of welding processes using appropriate equipment and setup procedures and for GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, and OAW
  • Follow blueprints and layout specifications
  • Use jigs, welding torches and hand tools
  • Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers and measuring tapes
  • Tack-weld fitted parts together
  • Applies principles of basic welding fundamentals
  • Identify proper welding consumables and fluxes for a selected process
  • Responsible for care and cleanliness of their assigned equipment/workstation and/or area

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or,   six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of   education and experience.  This job   requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,   operating and active experience in the following welding processes:  GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, SAW, PAC, OFC and others.   Maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  This job requires the ability to write   routine reports and correspondence.    This job requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and the   ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in   written, oral, pictorial or diagram form.

Career Advancement

The position of Welding Technician reports directly to the   Welding Supervisor and/or Project Manager for particular assigned project.
